Why the Grannies Project Matters
Thousands of grandmothers across Nairobi's informal settlements are raising grandchildren alone — with no income, no support, and no voice. We exist to change that.
Skipped-Generation Caregiving
These grandmothers have been left to raise grandchildren alone — due to bereavement, abandonment, or social disruption — often with no warning and no resources.
Vulnerability & Isolation
Aged women living in informal settlements like Kibra in Nairobi, facing poverty, social isolation, and severely limited access to public services.
No Income or Support
Without craft skills, market access, or financial literacy, they lack the means to provide for their grandchildren or sustain their own dignity.
Our Core
Activities
Six interconnected programmes that address the economic, social, and skills needs of our grannies — from craft training to financial education.
